Some days everything feels messy. The 20-minute reset is a simple routine I use when I feel off track. It takes about 20 minutes and it costs nothing.
The five steps
- Clean something (4 minutes). Pick one small area and fix it. Order outside helps order inside.
- Move your body (5 minutes). Walk fast, stretch or do squats. Get the blood moving.
- Write it out (4 minutes). Put everything bothering you on paper. Do not edit it. Just get it out of your head.
- Choose one priority (3 minutes). Look at the list and ask, what is the one thing that matters most today?
- Take the first step (4 minutes). Do the first small piece of that one thing right now.
Why it works
A messy mind feels bigger than it really is. When you clean, move and write, you shrink the problem down to something you can handle. Then one clear action beats a hundred worries.
When to use it
Use it in the morning, after work or any time you feel stuck. If you only have ten minutes, cut each step in half. A short reset still counts.
Try it once this week. See how you feel after. I think you will like it.

Make it your ownThese five steps are a starting point, not a rule. Swap them for what fits your life. If cleaning is not it, take a walk. If writing is not it, call someone. The point is to slow down, get a little order around you, and remember what matters.
A smaller version for hard days
On the hard days I keep it even smaller. I do the first step only. One small thing cleaned, one deep breath, one prayer. Twenty minutes is a good goal, but five minutes beats zero. You can always do the rest tomorrow.
