The best investment you can make is in yourself. And it does not have to cost much. One new thing each week, over a full year, adds up to fifty-two new things. That is real growth, and almost nobody does it on purpose.
Pick one thing a week
It could be a skill, a chapter of a book, a short video from someone who knows more than you, or a conversation with a person you admire. Keep it simple. The goal is steady, not heroic.
Put it on the calendar
If it is not scheduled, it will not happen. Twenty minutes is enough. A lunch break, an early morning, a quiet evening. Protect that time like you would protect a meeting with someone important. You are important.
Use it within a day
Learning that is not used fades fast. Within a day, try what you learned, even a little. Say the new phrase, try the new method, make the new call. Doing makes it stick.
Teach it to someone
Share what you learned with a friend, a coworker or your kids. You remember it better and you help them too. Teaching is one of the fastest ways to learn.
Learn from people ahead of you
Find someone who is a few steps ahead and ask one good question. Most people are glad to share. Keep it short and thank them well. A few good conversations can save you years.
Do not forget your heart
Growth is not only skills. Invest in your faith, your relationships and your health. Prayer, a good walk and an honest talk with a friend are some of the best returns you will ever get. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:7).
Track the small wins
Keep a simple list of what you learned each week. After three months, read it. You will see how far you have come, and you will want to keep going.
Try this today
Pick this week’s one thing. Put twenty minutes on your calendar right now before you forget.
