When we want to get healthier, we tend to think big. A new program, a gym membership, a full overhaul. Then life gets busy and nothing happens.
Try something smaller. Walk for ten minutes. That is it.
Why it works
A short walk gets your blood moving, clears your head, and gives you a break from screens. It also gives you a quick win, and quick wins build momentum. After a week of ten minute walks, twenty minutes feels natural.
Make it easy
Walk right after a meal or right after you wake up. Take a call while you walk. Bring a kid or a friend if you can, because the conversation is half the benefit. Leave the earbuds home once in a while and just listen to the world around you.
Check with your doctor if you have health concerns, and go at your own pace. The goal is not to impress anyone. It is to show yourself you can keep a small promise.
Tomorrow, take the ten minutes. I will be walking too.
