We often think peace will come once things settle down. Once the bills are paid, once the worry passes, once the people around us finally change.
But traditions all over the world say something different. Peace is not what happens outside of us. It is what we cultivate inside of us, often while the storm is still going.
What the wise ones kept saying
Teachers like Yogananda spoke of finding stillness within, no matter what is happening around you. The Psalms speak of quiet waters in the middle of valleys. The Dhammapada says that the mind, once trained, brings happiness. Different voices, same message. Peace is a place you can go.
A simple practice
Sit somewhere quiet for five minutes. Breathe in slowly and breathe out slowly. When a worry shows up, notice it and let it pass like a cloud. Do not fight it. Come back to your breath. Then say a short prayer or a simple line like, I am held, I am okay for now.
It will not fix your problems. But you will face them from a calmer place, and that changes how you handle them.
Wherever you are today, I hope you find a little stillness. You do not need to wait for the trouble to end first.
