Being a good dad is not about the big trip or the perfect speech. Kids remember who showed up, who listened, and who made them feel like they mattered.
You can do a lot with ten minutes if you give them your full attention.
Put the phone in another room. Ask one real question and then stay quiet long enough to hear the answer. What was the best part of your day? What was hard? What are you looking forward to?
Play something with them, even if it is only a short game. Let them lead. Laugh at yourself when you lose.
Say what you see in them. Tell them you are proud of how they handled something. Specific words stick. A kid who hears them will carry them for years.
Close the day with a short prayer or a few kind words. It does not have to be fancy. It just has to be real.
Some days you will miss. That is okay. Tomorrow is another ten minutes. Keep showing up, and your family will feel it.
Being a dad is the thing I am most proud of. Let’s keep getting better at it together.
