Losing a friend can knock the air out of you. One day they are in your life and the next day there is a hole where they used to be. There is no right way to feel, and there is no deadline for getting through it.
Let yourself feel it. Cry if you need to. Be quiet if you need to. Do not rush to be okay for other people.
Keep your days simple. Eat something. Drink water. Sleep when you can. Take a short walk. When you are grieving, small things count as big wins.
Talk about them. Say their name. Tell a story that made you laugh. Share memories with others who loved them. It keeps their spirit close and reminds you that you are not alone.
If you pray, pray honestly. You can tell God you are angry, tired or lost. Many people find comfort in leaning on their faith and their church or community.
Do something small in their honor. Call their family. Visit a place they loved. Carry something forward that they taught you.
If the weight does not lift, or if you have thoughts of hurting yourself, please reach out to a doctor, counselor, pastor or someone you trust today. In the US you can call or text 988 any time. You do not have to carry this alone.
You will not get over this. You will learn to carry it. Be patient with yourself. One day at a time is enough.
