Some stories make me angry in a way I cannot put down. A child is hurt. A family loses someone they love. Then the questions start. What is fair? What is right? What does healing look like?
I believe people who do terrible things must be held accountable, and families who lost someone deserve justice. I also know good people land on different sides of hard questions like the death penalty. This post is not a debate. It is a reminder to keep our hearts from getting hard while we work through them.
Hold justice and mercy together
You can want justice for victims and still want your own heart to stay soft. Anger can be a signal that something is wrong. It does not have to become the only thing you feel.
Remember the people in the middle
Families, friends, first responders, and neighbors carry these stories for years. Pray for them. Show up for them. Those quiet acts are part of justice too.
Talk with respect
You can disagree and still listen. Ask questions. Look for the shared hope underneath, which is that people are safe and that children grow up whole.
Take care of yourself
Constant outrage wears you out. Step away when you need to, then come back with a steady mind. If this topic keeps you up at night, talk to someone you trust.
The world needs people who care about what is right and still treat others with dignity. Be that person. Take a breath with Breathe and Win when things get loud.
