Most of us have something we keep putting off. A business idea. A workout. A hard conversation. A page we have not written. We tell ourselves we will start when the time is right.
The time is almost never right. I have learned that the feeling of being ready usually shows up after we begin, not before.
Ready is a feeling, not a requirement
You do not need to have it all figured out. You need the next step. That is all. When I try to see the whole road, I freeze. When I look at the next ten feet, I move.
Ask yourself one question today. What is the smallest thing I can do in the next ten minutes that moves this forward?
Make it small enough to win
Write one paragraph. Take one walk. Send one message. Small is not weak. Small is how big things get built.
When you finish the small thing, you will feel something shift. You are now a person who started. That is a different person than the one who was waiting.
You will not do it perfectly
The first try is rarely good. That is fine. Nobody I admire got it right the first time. They got it done, then made it better.
So pick the thing you have been avoiding. Start badly if you have to. Then come back tomorrow and do a little more. That is how you win over time.
