There are people on our streets and in our neighborhoods who are hungry tonight. Some work two jobs and still cannot make it. Some are one bad month away from losing everything.
It is easy to look away. It is harder, and better, to look closer.
See the person first
Every person has a story, a name, and a family somewhere. A smile and a hello cost nothing and can mean a lot.
Give what you can
You do not need to be rich. Five dollars toward a food bank. A bag of groceries. A coat you do not wear. Gifts of any size add up.
Give your time
Serve a meal. Tutor a child. Drive a neighbor to the doctor. Your time is a gift that no money can buy.
Support local
Churches, food pantries and shelters in your town are doing good work every day. Find one and ask what they need.
Teach your kids
Bring them along. Let them pack a lunch or pick a toy to donate. Kindness is learned by doing.
You cannot fix everything. But you can help someone tonight. Start there, and keep going.
