Some days you can feel grateful for your family and still be crushed by the news. That can feel confusing. It may even feel like you are doing something wrong. You are not.
Gratitude does not erase pain, and pain does not erase gratitude. Both are real. Both can sit in the same chest.
Let both be true
Say it out loud: “I am thankful for this, and I am heartbroken about that.” You do not need to choose one.
Thank God in the middle of it
Prayers of thanks can be honest prayers too. “Thank you for my kids. Please help the families who are hurting tonight.”
Count the good that is still here
Make a short list each night. Three things are enough. Let the list grow slowly over time.
Do something with the heartbreak
Heartbreak can turn into care. Write a note, make a meal, donate, or pray with purpose. Action helps the heart heal.
Send a gratitude wish
Tell someone you appreciate them with a message from Make Someone’s Day. Sharing gratitude keeps your heart open.
You can hold both. Gratitude and heartbreak are not enemies. Together they make you more human, and more able to love well.
