Every week there is good news that never makes the front page. Here is this week’s roundup. Take a minute, read a few, and pass one along to someone who needs it.
Kids are safer around water. Global drowning deaths for children under five have dropped from about 30 per 100,000 in 1980 to about 7.4 per 100,000 by 2023. Better safety habits and better care are saving lives.
Broadway gave big. The 40th annual Broadway Flea Market raised about $1.487 million for organizations that support people living with HIV and AIDS.
Norway protected a huge stretch of ocean. A new marine reserve in Andfjorden covers an area about the size of 260,000 football pitches and shelters coral reefs, kelp forests and sea life.
A rescued gorilla became a mom. Lulingu, rescued from the illegal wildlife trade years ago, gave birth in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Island nations got a lifeline. World leaders at the United Nations agreed that island countries keep their legal rights and borders even as rising seas threaten their land.
Seabirds are bouncing back. Little tern colonies in England set breeding records this season.
Good news is not ignoring the hard stuff. It is remembering that people are still doing good work and good things are still happening.
If this lifted you up, share it with one person today. Then come back next week for more.
