Pacifico Energy has announced an ambitious new initiative that could reshape the future of AI-powered infrastructure. The GW Ranch project, located on more than 8,000 acres in Pecos County, Texas, will deliver 5 gigawatts (GW) of reliable, off-grid power—purpose-built to fuel hyperscale data centers and artificial intelligence innovation.
Unlike conventional projects tied to the grid, GW Ranch combines natural gas turbines with advanced battery storage, providing data center operators “five nines” of reliability (99.999% uptime). This unique design promises faster deployment, energy independence, and a resilient foundation for AI and other power-intensive industries.
Built for the AI Era
AI workloads are exploding, and with them, the demand for massive, reliable power infrastructure. Traditional grid-tied projects often face interconnection delays, bottlenecks, and unpredictable timelines. GW Ranch bypasses these barriers by operating completely off-grid.
The project’s roadmap:
- 1 GW online by 2028
- Full 5 GW capacity by 2030
- 1.8 GW of battery storage for peak demand balancing
- N+2 redundancy and dual independent gas pipelines ensuring resilience
“GW Ranch isn’t just about scale—it’s about certainty,” said Constantyn Gieskes, Vice President at Pacifico Energy. “Every aspect of the project has been designed to solve problems with the status quo in data center development.”
Economic Growth in West Texas
Beyond powering AI, GW Ranch will be a major driver of regional development. Thousands of construction jobs, significant new tax revenues, and long-term infrastructure investments are expected to benefit Pecos County and the wider region.
Local leaders have voiced strong support. Remie Ramos, Pecos County Economic Development Director, emphasized that the project will bring jobs and tax growth while conserving water and avoiding strain on local infrastructure.
Sustainability at Scale
Although natural gas is the primary driver, Pacifico Energy has prioritized responsible, low-impact design:
- No external water sources required
- Best-available emissions controls
- Careful site planning to limit noise, air quality, and visual impacts
- No impact on Texas grid reliability or consumer prices
The project aims to strike a balance between reliability, economic development, and sustainability—a crucial formula as America races to maintain its AI leadership.
